Fix Battery Drain in Xperia devices due to Android OS

Battery drain is one of the common issues Xperia users face. It is Sony’s flagship series and despite all the effort Sony puts, Xperia devices aren’t free from the issues. Though battery related issues apparently seem to be related to the hardware but in Xperia’s case, it is mainly due to firmware or third-party apps. One of the major causes of battery drain in Xperia devices is Google Play services. Most of the users have identified the battery drain issue after the update which brought the latest version of Google Play services (4.4.52).

Another major factor which leads to battery drain in Xperia devices is the Android. Since all the Xperia devices run Android operating system any user can come across this issue. What happens is that after users update their Andriod OS to the latest version, the battery life of their device starts to drop faster than before. It happens due to the applications that are running in the background. Close those apps and the battery drain will decrease and will get back to normal.

Fix Battery Drain in Xperia devices

Battery drain was a common issue couple of years ago but forum discussions show that still, some Xperia users counter it. If closing the applications isn’t helping, here we have listed few methods which pretty much help in every battery related issue.

Update Your Sony Xperia Device

Sony has released various updates for the battery related issue and it is better to check if there is a stalled update.

  1. Got to Settings > About Device.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Software Update.

If there is an update due, your phone will automatically install it.

Turn Location Off

For some users, turning the location on their device Off has worked. Simply drag down the navigation panel and tap on the Location icon to turn it Off.

Boot in Safe Mode

In Safe mode, only pre-installed apps work which will allow you to inspect if it’s the third-party app that is causing the issue. To boot in Safe Mode;

  1. Turn your Xperia device Off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the phone restarts press Volume Down key. This will boot the device in Safe Mode.

Perform Factory Reset

Performing a factory reset will take your phone back to default settings and it should be used as a last resort. Make sure to create a backup of your data as factory reset wipes everything.

  1. Turn Off your device.
  2. Now Press and Hold Power + Volume Up + Home keys at the same time until screen awakes.
  3. When it does, let go of the keys.
  4. Here, use Volume Up/Down keys to navigate to the wipe data/factory reset option.
  5. Use the Power key to select the option.
  6. Then use the Power key to select Reboot system now.
